ROMNEY, W.Va. — Ayden Crabtree and Mason Slade pitched a gem and Hampshire had a 10-4 edge in hits as the Trojans took down No. 1 Frankfort, 4-3, on Wednesday night.
Hampshire (4-2) ended a five-game losing streak to Frankfort (4-2) with the victory, its first in the series since 2022.
The Trojans scored a run in each of the first four innings to lead 4-2.
That was enough with Crabtree and Slade combining to limit a powerful Frankfort lineup to three runs on four hits across seven innings.
Crabtree pitched the first five, allowing three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and six walks to register as the winning arm. Slade picked up the save with two shutout innings of one-hit ball.
Hampshire’s Mason Wolford went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Mark Richmond was 2 for 3 and drove in a run, and Channing Wilt added a ribbie.
Jaxon Hare and Lanson Orndorf (Charleston signee) doubled for Frankfort. Hare, Cole Shanholtz and Braeden Laffey had RBIs.
Rhett Sensabaugh was tabbed with the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) in five innings. Laffey pitched a scoreless frame in relief.
Frankfort is at Jefferson on Thursday at 1 p.m. and heads to Martinsburg on Saturday at noon.
Hampshire hosts No. 4 East Hardy (2-1) on Friday at 6 p.m.
No. 2 Allegany 15, Petersburg 5
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — No. 2 Allegany scored six runs in the first and six more in the last to defeat Petersburg in mercy-rule fashion in six frames.
Allegany (5-0) was led by Kohen Madden at the plate, who went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs. Madden’s big knock came in the form of a three-run inside-the-park homer for the Campers’ first three runs of the game.
Cole Ricker went 3 for 4 with a double, Dylan Irons was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs, Kyran Freeman scored three times, and Daulton Harper doubled.
Liam Buck was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 4 1/3 frames. He struck out five and walked two.
Powell tossed 1 2/3 frames of no-hit, shutout ball in relief with three strikeouts.
Petersburg (2-2) was paced offensively by a 2-for-3 performance by Lukas Wolford, who doubled and had two RBIs. Owen Reel, who was the losing pitcher, also doubled.
Allegany hosts Martinsburg (6-2) on Friday at 11 a.m.
Petersburg is at South Harrison on Friday at 5 p.m.
No. 4 East Hardy splits
BAKER, W.Va. — No. 4 East Hardy bounced back from an 18-5 loss to Central Woodstock, Virginia, Wednesday with an 15-0 Tucker County for a doubleheader split.
The Cougars (2-1) were out-hit 17-8 in their first defeat of the season. Woodstock’s Noah Moss belted a three-run home run, and Cullen Stanley had four hits and four RBIs.
East Hardy’s Mason Hamilton went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Evan Hamilton doubled, singled twice and scored three runs.
Against Tucker, Cole Lantz and Eli Combs combined for a no-hitter in the four-inning romp.
Dayton Dove doubled and drove in four runs to lead the Cougars’ lineup, Levi Price doubled, and Shayne Sisler and Gage Dove scored three runs apiece.
East Hardy is at Hampshire (4-2) on Friday at 6 p.m.
