ROMNEY, W.Va. — Hampshire recorded its first victory of the season Friday, scoring 43 points after halftime to defeat Grafton, 67-59, behind Matt Medina’s 28 points.
Hampshire (1-19) trailed 18-8 after the first quarter and 28-24 at the half but took the lead with a 24-point third period. The Trojans, taking a 48-44 edge into the fourth, won the final period 19-15.
Tanner Netzer made 5 of 6 free throws in the decider to help Hampshire hang on. The Trojans were 24 for 34 at the foul line for the game, and Medina was 13 of 16.
Netzer joined Medina in double figures with 13 points, and Channing Wilt added eight.
Jacob Moats and Gage Alexander led the way for Grafton with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
Hampshire won the junior varsity contest 43-27. Chase Brill scored 16 points for the Trojans and Dylan Andrew’s 13 points led Grafton.
Hampshire hosts Preston on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
No. 3 Frankfort 78, Lewis County 62
WESTON, W.Va. — Five Falcons scored at least nine points, led by Kycin Waites’ 25, in a victory over Lewis County on Saturday.
Frankfort (13-7) avenged a 99-55 loss to Lewis County last season, leading 20-10, 36-36 and 55-41 after the first three quarters.
Jeremy Phillips added 18 points for the Falcons, Ken’Yen Smith and Braeden Laffey scored 11 each, and Bryson McKenzie finished with nine. Waites made three 3-pointers.
Scoring in double figures for Lewis County were Jesse Kemper (21 points), Kyle Hayhurst (12) and Kellen Bruffey (10).
Lewis County won the junior varsity game 68-50 led by Branson Satterfield’s 21 points. Carter Layton finished with 10 points for Frankfort.
Frankfort is at Moorefield (6-13) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
No. 5 East Hardy 89, Northern 41
BAKER, W.Va. — Evan Hamilton buried seven triples and dropped 26 points, and East Hardy sunk 18 3-pointers in a rout of Northern on Friday.
Hamilton knocked down two 3-pointers in each of the first three quarters and added another in the fourth.
Gideon Good (19), Mason Hamilton (15) and Aubrey McCullough (14) also scored in double figures for the Cougars (16-4).
Good scored 14 in the first half while Mason Hamilton buried five shots from distance.
Jayden McNally led the Huskies (9-12) with 24 points and shot 10 of 12 at the charity stripe.
Angelo Lacy hit a pair of triples and scored 10 points.
East Hardy led 28-9, 49-12 and 77-27 through three quarters.
Northern heads to Hancock on Monday at 7 p.m.
East Hardy defeated Clay-Battelle, 49-47, Saturday and visits Pendleton County on Tuesday night.
No. 5 East Hardy 49, Clay-Battelle 47
BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. — No. 5 East Hardy edged Clay-Battelle Saturday to push its winning streak to 11 games.
The Cougars led 18-8 after the first quarter, 24-18 at halftime and 41-34 going into the fourth period.
Evan Hamilton (14 points), Good (11), Joseph Price (10) and McCullough (10) paced East Hardy.
Clay-Battelle was led by Cooper Payton and Trey Huggins with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
No. 4 Petersburg 88, Moorefield 74
PETERSBURG, W,Va. — Kaleb Kuhn and Caden Ours combined for 54 points, leading Petersburg over Moorefield on Friday.
Kuhn scored a game-high 28 points with five 3-pointers for the Vikings (14-5).
Ours finished with 26 points and shot 9 of 10 at the line.
Payton Metheny added 13 points while Lucas Riggleman scored 11.
Cyrus Kump led the Yellow Jackets (6-13) with 20 points while Shawn Reed finished with 18.
Petersburg led 24-14, 38-32 and 62-52 through three quarters.
Moorefield hosts No. 3 Frankfort (13-7) Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Petersburg hosts East Hardy Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Union 65, Valley-Wetzel 34
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. — Union notched a series of milestones in a victory over Valley-Wetzel on Saturday.
Braylon Ward and Corbin Streets topped the 500-rebound threshold. Streets also became the Tigers’ all-time leader in blocks with 100 earlier this month.
Union (9-10) held a 17-5 edge after the first quarter, a 29-14 advantage at the half and 47-23 lead following three periods.
Streets garnered 29 points with five rebounds and two blocks. Eric Linkswiler notched a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, as did Ward with 12 points 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
Valley-Wetzel was led by Koleton Kinkade’s 13 points.
Union hosts Calvary (1-14) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Smithsburg 78, Allegany 67
CUMBERLAND — Jacob Tyler out-dueled Allegany’s Chris Manherz to key a Smithsburg win on Friday.
Tyler dropped 36 points, scoring 13 in the fourth quarter and 19 after halftime for the Leopards (13-11).
Camden Zeigler finished with 15 points for Smithsburg.
Manherz led the Campers (12-8) with 29 points, adding four assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Landon Holliday finished with 16 points, five rebounds and a steal.
Owen Rice scored 10 points with a pair of rebounds.
Allegany ends the regular season at Clear Spring on Monday at 7 p.m.
Tygarts Valley 75, Paw Paw 56
MILL CREEK, W.Va. — Jacob Wamsley and Parker Bell combined for 46 points in Tygarts Valley’s victory over Paw Paw on Saturday.
Paw Paw (9-11) trailed 20-13, 46-25 and 53-38 after the first three periods.
Braylen Paul paced Paw Paw with 23 points, and Taylor Carder added 20. Paul made three 3-pointers and Carder sunk a pair of triples.
Wamsley led all scorers with 27 points. Bell chipped in 19.
Paw Paw hosts Berkeley Springs on Thursday night.
