DANVILLE — Another recipient has been chosen for a home from the Habitat for Humanity organization in Danville.
“Just by them giving me the opportunity to be a first-time homeowner… It really is [overwhelming],” Tabresh Morris said.
Morris is a full-time home caregiver whose daily job is giving back to others. So being chosen, she says, is very ‘overwhelming,’ but she is extremely grateful. She also encourages others to apply.
“I definitely will encourage any and everyone to sign up for the program,” Morris said. “They’re very nice and loving people, welcoming… I was very happy and fortunate to be blessed to get approved and accepted through the program.”
“It feels great. It really does,” Morris added. “It makes me feel really good inside to know that I’m doing my part to help anybody in the community, family, friends.”
Morris has five children, all daughters, ranging from 22 to 13. She is really excited to be able to have a home to possibly keep in the family.
“I do have plans maybe later on in the future to build on the property,” Morris said. “Like get a garage built and, you know, make it really homelier for, you know, the rest of my years on.”
Her three oldest children — Tybrea Jones, 22, Tyana Jones, 22, and D’Angel Coleman, 20 — have moved out to their own homes and are in various stages of their young careers. However, her youngest daughters — Kalia Wright, 15, and Kalis Wright, 13 — still live at home and are very active in the community.
“My second youngest, like, she’s in all kinds of things,” Morris said. “She made the cheerleading team… she’s in the work program… she’s in dance. I just try to keep my girls busy in a positive environment.”
And as the shovels hit the ground for the photo snaps, Morris says she’s ready to get to work on the three-bedroom, two-bath home.
“We’re very much ready to do whatever’s needed and help in any way that we could possibly help,” Morris said. “Very exciting to start on this journey of learning how to build and see how… it goes in the process of, and ready to help. Ready to help. I have a lot of volunteers as far as my family.”
