The Greater Niagara Ballet Company returns this holiday season with its 37th annual production of “The Nutcracker,” merging intricate choreography, Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, and a striking design to create an evening of holiday magic for audiences of all ages.
The directors and rehearsal assistants have been rehearsing “The Nutcracker” with local talent since early October in preparation for the performance. They blend the Company’s original choreography from Alexandra Auld, a former dancer with the National Ballet of Canada, with inventive staging, which honors tradition while introducing fresh motifs.
The cast of nearly 150 company dancers, featured guest artists, and local ballet students will perform “The Nutcracker” this year. In addition to skilled dancing, audiences will enjoy the full Tchaikovsky score, beautiful backdrops, costumes and lighting that will transport them from the Silberhaus parlor to the Snow Forest and the Land of the Sweets.
“Our production of ‘The Nutcracker’ is designed to be an experience that celebrates the music, spectacle, and technical brilliance of classical ballet,” said Artistic Director Mary Schnepf. “Every element works together to bring the show to life.”
The Greater Niagara Ballet Company’s production of “The Nutcracker” is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
Performances will take place at the Niagara Falls High School Performing Arts Center, 4455 Porter Road, Niagara Falls. at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13.
