MANKATO — Greater Mankato Growth has named a new president and chief executive officer.
Della Schmidt will lead GMG, which serves as the area’s chamber of commerce and has more than 900 members.
Schmidt has more than three decades of experience leading chamber, economic development, workforce development, and regional partnership organizations and initiatives within southern Minnesota and southeastern Iowa, most recently serving as the president and CEO of the Greater Burlington Partnership the past five years, according to a GMG news release. Previously, Schmidt led the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce for 16 years and served as president of the Carlton County Chamber and as president of the St. Peter Area Chamber.
“We are thrilled to welcome Della Schmidt, a dynamic leader who has a track record of success with chamber and economic development initiatives, as GMG’s new president and CEO,” David Krause, chair of the GMG Board of Directors, stated in the release.
“Della brings extensive experience leading complex organizations, building community and business partnerships, and developing teams all focused on driving economic growth and opportunity which will benefit our region.”
Jessica Beyer announced in October she would be stepping away from the GMG leadership role. John Kind, former executive director of the YMCA, is acting as interim leader of GMG.
Charlie Whitaker, chair of the search committee, said Schmidt’s experience of encouraging cooperation is a plus. “Della has a track record of fostering collaboration between communities, businesses, local governments, and institutions, driving a robust business sector and a healthy economy,” he stated. “We are excited about the contributions and experience she will bring to GMG and our region.”
Schmidt is expected to start work at GMG in June.
