HARTSFIELD — Christy Cox and Justin McDowell of Hamilton School were awarded a $1000 grant from the R. Howard Dobbs Jr. Foundation through the Georgia Ag Experience program.
This grant will provide several new and exciting learning opportunities for Hamilton students through its agriculture program, the school said in a press release.
“Mrs. Cox and Mr. McDowell have teamed up to create an indoor microgreen garden that will be located in the hallway for all students to see and take care of,” the press release said. “Our students will be able to witness seeds coming alive right before their eyes! Students will not only learn about the responsibilities needed to care for a microgreen garden, but they will be able to watch as each seed grows into a delicious, nutritious snack for them to eat.”
This grant will also help Hamilton create its very own koi pond. Students will raise and care for the koi fish in aquariums while working on building a permanent habitat for them out by the school’s barn.
