A 23-year-old Grand Island man is facing felony charges following an investigation into the illegal sale of marijuana in the town.
Thomas L. Muscoreil, 23, of Grand Island, was arraigned Wednesday before Grand Island Town Court Justice Mark J. Frentzel on two counts of second-degree criminal possession of cannabis (Class “E” felonies).
Muscoreil was the subject of an investigation into the illegal sale of cannabis in Grand Island. On Feb. 27, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at retail stores on the 1700 block and 2400 block of Grand Island Boulevard. Investigators recovered more than 5 pounds of cannabis in the form of flowers, concentrate, and edibles, according to the Eric County District Attorney’s Office.
Muscoreil is scheduled to return to court on April 24 for a felony hearing. He was released on his own recognizance as the charge is a non-qualifying offense for bail.
“I will continue to work with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management and local law enforcement to investigate illegal marijuana dispensaries,” Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said. “If you are found in possession of more than a lawful amount of cannabis or are selling unregulated products to a person under the age of 21, you will be prosecuted. Anyone with information on illegal cannabis sales is encouraged to contact my office, their local police department, or the Office of Cannabis Management.”
Flynn commended the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit, New York State Office of Cannabis Management and New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for their work in the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leah A. Higgins of the Justice Courts Bureau.
