Marcus Montagnino continues to impress for the streaking Endicott College men’s hoop team.
Having already garnered nine Conference of New England Player of the Week’s in his two-year career, the Gloucester native added another one to his resume as announced by the league office earlier this week. It was the fourth CNE Player of the Week honor for Montagnino this season.
In Endicott’s 2-0 week, Montagnino averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals. He led the Gulls to a wire-to-wire 103-72 win over UNE, scoring 22 points with seven rebounds and three dimes in just 23 minutes played.
Then, on Saturday, he was clutch down the stretch to help Endicott get past Hartford, 79-72. He had 29 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists in that one, with 23 of his points coming in the second half to fuel a Gulls’ comeback.
For the season, the 6-foot-4 Montagnino is now averaging 21.8 ppg., 7.8 rpg. and 4.6 apg.
Endicott is ranked No. 14 in the nation for Division 3, boasting a 23-1 overall record and a perfect 15-0 mark in conference play. The Gulls have won a program-record 17 straight games and will conclude the regular season at home on Saturday against rival Roger Williams.
