The Gloucester Writers Center this week will launch its “Groundswell Reader Series,” a new venture to bring high-profile writers to Gloucester to share their work and vision.
The inaugural event will showcase Forrest Gander, a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, translator and editor, and Laura Marris, an essayist and translator.
“We will present writers whose work is at the intersection of creative ambition and civic engagement,” according to a program statement. “Both have written powerful works that engage not just with the art of poetry or the essay, but with species collapse, environmental catastrophe, and imagining stronger and more bodily bonds to the natural world.”
The event will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Gloucester, 10 Church St. A book signing will follow.
