It’s officially started to click for the Newburyport girls hockey team.
After a less-than-ideal start to the season, the Clippers have found their stride in a major way. On Wednesday night, Holly Sullivan was the hero on the road against rival Masconomet — which Newburyport co-opted with until forming its own co-op team in 2020. The sophomore netted the overtime game-winner, her second tally of the game, to lead the Clippers to a thrilling, 6-5, victory over the Chieftians for the program’s third straight win.
And over this three-game winning streak, the Clippers (3-7-0) have scored a combined 20 goals.
So the offense has been dialed up to a different level, with a bunch of different faces getting in on the scoring. Wednesday night, it was Amesbury senior Maddie Noury leading the way with a hat-trick, and Newburyport’s own Olivia Wilson had a goal as well.
Newburyport will try to extend its winning streak to four when it hosts Gloucester on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. puck drop.
