PLATTSBURGH — Over 100 Girl Scouts and volunteers from across the North Country and greater region gathered in Plattsburgh recently to celebrate the lasting impact of volunteer leadership during Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.
Longtime volunteers Kara Kelm, of Lake George, and Lyndsay Stevens, of Saranac Lake, were recognized with the organization’s Endless Impact Award, honoring individuals who have supported a troop throughout all 13 years of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, from Daisy through Ambassador.
Held in recognition of April as National Volunteer Appreciation Month, the event highlighted the critical role volunteers play in delivering programming and mentorship to nearly 8,500 girls across GSNENY’s 15-county service area, including communities throughout Clinton County and the surrounding North Country.
“Volunteering is one of the most powerful ways we build connection and strengthen communities,” Brenda Episcopo, CEO of GSNENY, said in a press release. “Through Girl Scouts, volunteers help girls grow into confident leaders committed to service. Kara and Lyndsay represent the very best of Girl Scouts and the difference volunteers make every day.”
Several additional volunteers were honored for milestone years of service, including Margaret Cayea, for 28 years; Lauren Colver Currie, for 32 years; Christine Shantie, for 35 years; and Kara Kelm, for 41 years, representing a combined 136 years of service.
