PLATTSBURGH — The Girl Scout cookie season is coming to a close for Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York.
The season, which began Jan. 22, will end March 29.
Girls across the council’s 15-county area have been selling cookies and working toward individual and troop goals. Community members can purchase cookies directly from a local Girl Scout, visit girlscoutcookies.org to use the Cookie Finder tool or stop by one of the many cookie booths in the area.
Proceeds from cookie sales remain local to support GSNENY programs and troops. Troops can use funds for activities, experiences and community service projects, and individual sellers can earn prizes, with the top seller eligible to serve as CEO for a Day.
Community members can also participate in the Gift of Caring program, donating cookies to local nonprofits and charities.
“Girl Scout cookie season represents an important opportunity for our girls to develop confidence and learn key business and workforce skills that will serve them well into the future and develop the next generation of workforce,” Brenda Episcopo, CEO of GSNENY, said in a press release.
“We are grateful to the community members who have supported our Girl Scouts throughout the season, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the remaining opportunities to purchase cookies before the season ends.”
The cookie lineup includes favorites such as Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Lemon-Ups, Toffee-tastic and Adventurefuls. A new cookie, Exploremores, also joined the lineup. Exploremores is a rocky road ice cream–inspired sandwich cookie featuring chocolate cookies, marshmallow-flavored crème and chocolatey chunks.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest, girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world. Through the program, girls gain experience in goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.
