GEORGETOWN — The fair returns to Georgetown today.
Fair Board Secretary Paula Berlin says this will be the 87th fair for Georgetown, with the first official fair held in 1938, and no fair held in 2020 due to COVID. This year, the fair runs from July 11-18 with the theme: “Farms, Fairs & Freedom, Happy Birthday America!” Berlin says.
“We are a board of 24 directors and countless volunteers who give of their time, talent and finances to ensure the continued success of the Fair each year,” Berlin said. “Being the board secretary can be challenging at times, but when you see it all come together, it makes it worthwhile!”

“We have 2 Home Economics buildings on the grounds, and each department will be decorated with the current theme,” Berlin said.
The fair will also be hosting the Vermilion County 4-H Fair next week. The carnival with Conner Family Amusements will also open next week, starting on Tuesday, July 14, and running until Saturday, July 18.
There is no gate charge for the fair Saturday through Monday. There will be a gate charge of $2 per adult and $1 per child ages 5 to 11 starting on Tuesday.

Berlin adds the fair draws in crowds from all-over.
“Our visitors each day are not limited to Georgetown,” Berlin said. “We do have many from the surrounding communities and beyond.”
