MCHENRY — Steve Putnam wants to help people battle their winter slump.
Putnam, director of Garrett College’s Community Aquatic & Recreation Complex, will teach a two-session course titled Wellness Reboot: Live Life Better. The course will be offered on March 11 and 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. both evenings.
“It’s time for a powerful reboot,” said Putnam, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise physiology from West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh, respectively. “This course has been designed to help people break free from the ‘winter blues’ and jumpstart their wellness with a holistic, total-body approach to health.”
Putnam said the course is about “taking control of your health, cultivating balance and feeling your best every day.”
Putnam said the first session will explore the key components of overall wellness and the barriers that keep people from living a healthier life, with a take-home assignment for use in the next session. The second session will focus on sleep, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, recovery, stability and exercise.
“We’ll discuss student progress, reflect on the assignment, and set clear, achievable goals,” added Putnam, who has served as the CARC director since 2012. “We’ll also create a plan to help each student take real steps toward preventive self-care.”
Putnam said his major course goal is for participants to “leave feeling motivated, empowered, and equipped with the tools to make lasting change.”
Prior to becoming the CARC director, Putnam served as executive director of The Wellness Center and Parsons Park Board in Tucker County, West Virginia. He has a background in cardiac rehabilitation and corporate wellness.
