PLATTSBURGH — The national average price of gasoline declined for a second week, down 3.4 cents compared to a week ago to $3.10 per gallon, and in New York state, prices are down 1 cent to $3.04.
According to GasBuddy data, the national average is up 1.8 cents from a month ago but 54.6 cents lower than a year ago and in New York State, 1.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and 61.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
“The national average has seen its second straight weekly decline, with gas prices falling in over 40 states. However, some states have seen increases due to localized price cycling,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said.
“With oil prices rallying over the past week, we may start to see the downward trend in gas prices begin to stall. So far, 2025 has been relatively calm at the pump for most Americans, thanks in part to OPEC’s ongoing restoration of oil production and continued uncertainty surrounding tariff policy and its potential impact on the global economy. Regardless, Americans are currently spending over $200 million less per day on gasoline compared to this time last year.”
The top 10% of gas stations have a reported average of $4.54 per gallon, with the bottom averaging $2.50.
California, Hawaii and Washington continue to average the highest prices per gallon at $4.76, $4.42 and $4.22 respectively.
The states with the lowest average prices per gallon are Mississippi, Texas and Tennessee tied at $2.65.
The most common price per gallon encountered by motorists remains unchanged at $2.99.
