OAKLAND — A Pennsylvania man was killed after a deer crashed through his windshield Monday, causing him to strike a tree in Garrett County, according to Sheriff Bryson Meyers.
Raymond Michael Craft, 32, of Center Valley, died at the scene of the 7:25 p.m. crash in the 3500 block of Maryland Highway, Meyers wrote in a press release Friday. Three other people were injured.
When deputies arrived on the scene, Meyers said, they located a Ford Escape that struck a deer in the east lane of Maryland Highway.
After the Ford hit the deer, it was thrown through the windshield of a Subaru Forester driven by Craft that was traveling west.
Craft’s vehicle traveled off the west shoulder, over an embankment and struck the tree head-on, Meyers said.
The front seat passenger in Craft’s vehicle was taken by a HealthNet helicopter to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, for treatment, Meyers said. A juvenile in the back seat of that vehicle and the driver of the Ford were transported to Garrett Regional Medical Center.
Units from Deer Park and Oakland volunteer fire departments and Garrett County Emergency Services and Bittinger EMS responded to the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office accident reconstruction team, according to Meyers.
