OAKLAND — An Accident man was arrested Wednesday after authorities allegedly found him in possession of cocaine with a street value of $50,000.
Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers said detectives with the Narcotics Task Force stopped a vehicle driven by John Richard Henson, 42, around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Avilton Lonaconing Road and National Pike.
Detectives found a half-kilo of cocaine in the vehicle, then found more cocaine and drug packaging materials when they searched Henson’s Collier Road residence, Meyers said.
“This will have a huge impact on the drug trade within our communities and the surrounding areas,” Meyers said. “The sheriff’s office will continue to work diligently to investigate controlled dangerous substance violations and will continue to provide resources and investigative efforts to seize illicit drugs from entering our communities.”
Firearms, $204, a 2016 Chrysler 300 and a 2018 Jeep Renegade were also reportedly seized.
Henson was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a large volume of cocaine, possession of firearms in relations to a drug trafficking crime, possession with intent to distribute cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school zone and possession of cocaine.
He was being held Friday without bond at the Garrett County Detention Center.
The task force is a cooperative enforcement effort between the sheriff’s office and the Garrett County State’s Attorney’s Office. Suspected drug activity can be reported by leaving an anonymous tip at 301-334-7240 or by visiting the website at https://sheriff.garrettcountymd.gov/.
