OAKLAND — A passerby is credited with pulling a man from a burning vehicle that had crashed Tuesday on Sand Flat Road, the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said.
The driver, Daniel Tichinel Jr. of Oakland, sustained second- and third- degree burn injuries to 45% of his body and was flown to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh following initial treatment at Garrett Regional Medical Center, the fire marshal’s office said.
Tichinel was operating a 2018 Audi in the 3000 block of Sand Flat Road when he lost control and the vehicle struck several trees before catching on fire, investigators said.
The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after the 1:30 p.m. call to Garrett County 911 center.
