DANVILLE — The Vermilion County Conservation District has a unique volunteer opportunity for those that enjoy gardening.
Volunteers are needed at the Atwood Home garden at Kennekuk County Park for the rest of the summer and during the fall. Master Gardeners have been continuously weeding and clearing plant debris to keep the gardens looking their best but would love some additional help.
There are four whiskey half-barrel planters that need to be watered during the dry periods. When the summer is over, we start the fall cleanup which includes cutting back plants: hydrangea, hibiscus, and other woody shrubs. Also, clearing out the spent summer perennials such as hosta, fern, etc.
Volunteers do not need to be Master Gardeners or have gardening experience and may work at times that are convenient for them and spend what time they can offer.
The MG team work together on Mondays from 8 a.m. to noon as the weather permits. Volunteers should come at least once to our regular work times in order to see what needs to be done and to find where we keep our work tools.
