Wenham native Gian Gamelli was selected to the All-NECBL first team as a starting pitcher for the North Shore Navigators, the league announced this week. Ironically, he’s North Shore’s first all-leaguer at pitcher since Will Jones a few years ago … and both Jones and Gamelli came to the Navs after incredible high school careers at Hamilton-Wenham.
A rising sophomore at Notre Dame, the lefthanded Gamelli was dominant this summer. He made seven appearances (six starts) as the anchor of the and posted 2.64 ERA. The power pitcher tied for the NECBL regular-season lead with 47 strikeouts over 30.2 innings. Opponents hit .188 against Gamelli, who allowed one earned run or fewer in five of his outings, recorded at least five strikeouts in each, and also struck out the side in a scoreless inning as his team’s starter at the NECBL All-Star Game.
Shortstop Hudson Ellis, who led North Shore in hitting at .320 with 15 RBI and 29 runs, was chosen for the second team. He set a franchise single season record with 30 stolen bases and also posted a .493 on-base percentage that stands as a North Shore team record.
Byfield native Hunter Kingsbury, who plays for Bryant, earned second team All-NECBL honors in the outfield. A Governor’s Academy grad, he his .272 with 24 RBI and 20 runs scored to go with 26 stolen bags.
