CUMBERLAND — A city man wanted on an active warrant was taken into custody Tuesday night after he allegedly pulled a knife from his waistband and threatened arresting Cumberland Police officers in the 900 block of Frederick Street.
No injuries were reported in the 8:09 p.m. incident that ended with the arrest of 39-year-old Jude David Smith on assault and weapon charges in addition to concealing a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment.
Following the arrest, Smith was jailed at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond pending a bail review hearing Wednesday.
When confronted by the officers, Smith reportedly pulled a knife from his waistband, threatened the officers and also threatened to harm himself. He failed to comply with orders to drop the knife and was taken into custody following a brief pursuit on foot, police said.
