Though almost every Florida State fan had given up on the college football 2024 season, it’s hard to watch the team do the same. That was the signal the Noles gave fans when they announced that DJ Uiagalelei was being benched and redshirt freshman Brock Glenn, AKA the Nole’s future QB, would get the start against Clemson.
The Seminoles, of course, looked terrible against the Tigers. Clemson racked up 500 yards of offense while Florida State went three full quarters without a rushing yard and finished with 22. No Seminole rusher had more than 16 yards on the ground.
On the bright side, Brock Glenn looked good under center for Florida State. He threw 41 times in the game, which fans can likely expect more of as the Noles coaching staff try to get him prepped for next season. The redshirt freshman threw for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per completion. Not bad for his first real go as the starter.
Glenn did get the start in last year’s blowout bowl game loss to Georgia, but only after the first and second strings became unavailable. This start was much more productive and provided some hope for the program and the fan base in Glenn’s abilities. His favorite target was tight end Landen Thomas, who caught a season-high seven receptions for 80 yards.
This is just not the season that Florida State or any of their transfers envisioned. This game, for example, was supposed to be a revenge game for Uiagalelei. Welcoming the team and coach that benched him for current Clemson QB Cade Klubnik to his new home for an epic ACC showdown. Instead, DJ U has been benched, FSU has raised the white flag, and Clemson stomped the Noles in Tallahassee for the fourth straight time.
Florida State is now 1-5 with its sole win coming over Cal, who has looked good this year. The Noles have a much-needed bye week coming up before getting into the meat of their tough ACC schedule. The Seminoles with face Duke, Miami, North Carolina, and Notre Dame in the next five weeks and will likely enter their game against Charleston Southern 1-9. This is a two-win season for the Noles, but hey, there’s always next year.
