CANTON, Ohio — The Frostburg State swim teams swept the Mountain East Conference (MEC) championships over the weekend.
The women’s team won its fourth consecutive MEC title while the men secured a three-peat.
The women finished fourth overall at the meet which also included the GMAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference), but finished best among MEC teams.
On the final day of events, freshman Genna Rippeon began things by placing fourth overall and tops in the conference in the 1,650 free with a 17:44.60 while senior Lydia Nebiolo took sixth overall and second among MEC swimmers at 17:53.77.
In the 100 free, FSU continued its streak of First Team All-MEC performances as senior Kendall Hooper took fourth in the B final at 53.77.
Nebiolo went on to finish eighth in the A final of the 200 backstroke with Second Team All-MEC honors at 2:14.34, while freshman Taylor Emrich won the B final in 2:10.57 for Honorable Mention All-MEC and the second-fastest time in program history.
Junior Gaby Betancourt set a personal best in 2:12.73 for fifth all-time, with freshman Kay Buhrman going for 2:13.41 at seventh on the record board.
During the 200 breaststroke, senior Natasha Paciello continued her strong meet with fifth overall and first in the MEC at 2:28.22, while graduate Meaghan Keegan took eighth overall and Second Team All-MEC in 2:33.83.
The Bobcats closed out the meet in fine style, as the 400 free relay team of Hooper, Nebiolo, Rippeon and freshman Madison Hooper set a new program record at 3:32.49, earning third overall and one final First Team All-MEC honor.
For the men, senior Nate Canapp took second overall in the 1,650 free at 16:09.74 while earning First Team All-MEC, while sophomore Jack Bond placed seventh with Honorable Mention honors in 17:07.72.
In the 100 free, sophomores Abe Bias (46.43) and Dylan King (46.92) secured First and Second Team All-MEC honors, respectively, finishing fifth and seventh overall, with the former setting the third-fastest time in program history and the latter earning the fifth-fastest.
FSU earned another Honorable Mention All-MEC with graduate PJ Emrich (2:11.52) taking seventh overall in the 200 breast.
In the final event of the day, the 400 free relay team of Bias, King, senior Jaden Tipton and junior Josh Horner placed third overall and first in the MEC at 3:07.51, the third-best mark in program history.
