FROSTBURG — Frostburg State University will host its 10th annual Jazz Festival on May 2. The festival provides high school students from the mid-Atlantic region with an opportunity to participate in afternoon clinics focused on jazz music and performance.
The day’s public events include a jazz clinic with the U.S. Navy Band Commodores from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 213 of the Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center.
At 4 p.m., the Commodores will perform in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. They are available at the University Box Office in the Lane University Center 203, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., by phone at 301-687-3137 or online at tickets.frostburg.edu. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the concert.
As the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, the Commodores have been performing big band jazz for more than 50 years. Formed in 1969, the 18-member group conducts public concerts, national concert tours, ceremonial support in honoring veterans, jazz education classes and clinics and protocol performances for high-level military and civilian government officials.
