WHEELING, W.Va. — Frostburg State’s season came to an end in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) semifinals, falling 79-71 to Charleston on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (20-10) led 24-11, 36-33 and 57-47 through three quarters.
“This is the way basketball goes,” FSU head coach Jenna Eckleberry said in the postgame press conference. “But I think we were definitely ready to play, we were all excited. I think the first five minutes, we were down pretty quickly there, down 9-0. It just seemed like we were battling back”
Jenna Muha led the Bobcats (16-15) with 20 points, adding eight rebounds, a steal and a block.
Mandy Roman, Julie Spinelli and Laekyn Flinn each scored 12 points.
Roman added seven boards and a steal.
Paris Stokes led Charleston with 20 points, followed by Jordan Scully (16), Ksenija Mitric (13) and Noelle Polanco (13).
Frostburg finished with a third consecutive winning record for the first time since four straight seasons from 2003 to 2007.
The Bobcats also set single-season program records for made free throws (480) and free throw percentage (78.4).
CCBC Essex 96, Potomac State 69
WYE MILLS — WVU Potomac State led after one quarter, but Essex proved why it’s ranked No. 9 in NJCAA Division II.
The Knights (26-3) took the lead midway through the second quarter and never looked back, winning the Region 20 championship on Saturday.
The Catamounts (22-6) led 22-18 after one, but Essex took the lead for good with 8:18 before halftime.
Mya Glisan led Potomac State with 23 points, adding seven rebounds and a steal.
Miya Harris finished with a double-double of 22 points, 11 boards and three assists.
Glisan and Harris were named to the All-Region 20 Tournament team.
Larkin Walker scored 10 points with nine rebounds, six assists and four blocks.
Ty’Lah Washington (17), Azareya Whiting (16), Reghan Robinson (14), Meona Boykin (12) and McKenzie Nelson (11) scored in double figures for Essex.
Washington was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Potomac State finished with its most wins in 15 years.
