The Eagle-Tribune is forming a Reader Advisory Board composed of people who care deeply about local news to offer input and weigh in on issues affecting communities in our coverage area and beyond.
The board will include citizens who closely follow news in their city or town, across the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire, and state, national and world issues. Students are welcome to apply.
We’ll give you a newsroom and press tour at the outset, then get down to business discussing your stances, your story ideas, what you think is important for us to cover, and invite questions to reporters and editors about our process as journalists.
Some sessions will be topical and members will be informed in advance of the discussion, while others will be more improptu.
We’re looking for a diverse set of folks from across our coverage area who are not government officials or any of our regular opinion columnists. I’ll choose five or so members and be mindful of diversity in relation to gender, age, ethnicity and political views.
Those who are chosen to participate will make a one-year commitment and be announced in a story in The Eagle-Tribune. We’ll publish stories on the highlights of our sessions.
Meetings will be a mix of in-person and Zoom sessions. At the end of the year we will invite a new group.
To apply, please send an email to me at trauh@eagletribune.com answering the following questions:
What is your name? In what city or town do you live? What’s your phone number? What is your ethnicity? What is your profession or student status (high school or college)? What is your political affiliation? Why are you interested in participating? What do you believe are the three most pressing local issues at this time? What are the three most pressing national and world issues? Can you commit to a year of monthly or bi-monthly meetings?
I am truly excited to hear from potential members of our new Reader Advisory Board and get to know more people from our communities. I’m also hoping the published stories about our discussions will inspire letters to the editor and even more reader engagement.
