NEWBURYPORT — Looking to ensure a broad selection is available for its 46th Great Old Book Sale, the Friends of the Newburyport Public Library are accepting donation of hardcover, paperback and audio books in good to excellent condition.
The Great Old Book Sale will be held from Oct. 23 to Oct. 26, with donations being taken on Oct. 19, Oct. 21, and Oct. 22.
The sale will be held in the library’s program room, with thousands of hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase in categories including novels and graphic novels, memoirs, biographies, history, architecture and art, cookbooks, travel, sports and recreation, parenting, children’s books and more. A limited number of audio books will also be available.
This semiannual sale raises funds to support the library.
To accommodate space constraints, folks are urged to limit contributions to eight boxes per household. Donations can be delivered to the program room through the front door of the library on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The sale will begin with its traditional members’ sale for Friends of the Library members on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 2 to 8 p.m. Membership can be purchased or renewed at the library’s circulation desk, on the FOL website: www.newburyportfol.org/membership-2/ or in the library lobby starting at noon on Oct. 23.
Also at noon, since the first day of the sale is very busy, entry numbers will be provided to guarantee a place in line when the sale opens at 2 p.m., according to organizers.
The book sale for the general public begins on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Sale prices will be posted on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Saturday is “bargain day” when shoppers can fill a bag for just $5.
Volunteers are welcome to help sort books and set up prior to the sale and to work during the sale. A sign-up book for volunteers is in the library lobby next to the “book sale” poster, or one can visit the events page on www.newburyportfol.org for details.
