SOFTBALL
Danvers 15, Beverly 7: Down by five (7-2) in the fourth inning, the Falcons proceeded to rip off 13 unanswered runs and storm off with an impressive triumph. Briley Keezer was 4-for-5 offensively with a triple, with Kyla Moroney going 3-for-4 with three RBI and Addi McCarty blasting a home run in addition to going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases.
Giana Cash also had a strong day at the dish for Danvers (8-4), going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, and Lila Flynn was 2-for-3 and drove home three teammates. Elle Lindeman got the win in relief, allowing just three hits over the final 4 2/3 frames.
Beverly (5-6) saw Meredith Johnston deliver a two-run double and Ella Campos finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.
Pingree 6, Dana Hall 3: Kaitlyn Ferry had a terrific game subbing in at catcher for the Highlanders (now 3-6) while also delivering a base hit in their win. Antonella Najim threw a complete-game with nine strikeouts and also helped herself offensively by going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Molly Degnan also went 2-for-4 with a double and knocked in a run.
Essex Tech 12, Triton 0: Sophia Barreira spun a complete game shutout while striking out six as the Hawks (now 7-5) easily rolled on the road.
Hamilton-Wenham 10, Amesbury 3: Despite getting just five hits, the patient Generals walked nine times and rode the strong complete game pitching of Molly Bransfield (5 H, 7 K) to victory. Lydia Ruelet drove home a pair of runs for the winners while Viola Fazio and Maren McCaughey each had two hits. Fazio also had two of her team’s five stolen bases.
Manchester Essex 12, Swampscott 0: The Big Blue were limited to five hits and Manchester star Anna Gardner had her 100th career hit.
BASEBALL
Essex Tech 1, Triton 0: Liam Waterman threw a 2-hitter and struck out eight to get the Hawks (4-7) back on the winning track. Jacoby Casinelli Tarasuik had three hits and played some tremendous defense, as did Tommy Grant, Hayden Blais and Xavier Parsons. Jackson Taylor also had two base hits for Essex Tech.
Masconomet 6, Peabody 4: Aidan Brown’s 2-run single in the third put the Chieftains (7-5) ahead for good and Drew Gustafson finished 2-for-4 with a triple. Zach Ward went the distance and struck out six for Masconomet to out-duel Max Silvia (eight strikeouts) of the Tanners (5-7). Mark Bettencourt had an RBI double and Ty Lomasney had two hits for Peabody, which stranded the potential tying run in the sixth.
St. John’s Prep 7, Walpole 3: Maxwell Parent had two hits including a triple and drove home two as the Eagles (6-5) made it back-to-back wins. Jackson Zaimes (double) and Joe Bonavita also knocked in runs while Joey Eberhard (win) and Jeremiah Ramierz (save) combined for a solid pitching effort.
Pingree 11, Lexington Christian 3: Aidan Horgan stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and Kyle Daniels went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Highlanders improved to 9-4. Colt Downey also had two hits including a triple and Nate Zimmerman recorded a pair of hits.
Georgetown 4, Ipswich 0: Graham McNamara had two hits and Brady Merry stroked a double but the Tigers (2-9) couldn’t scratch across a run. Michael Quenn went the distance and kept the Royals off balance but Ipswich was outhit 11-6 in the setback.
Gloucester 16, Salem 1: The tough times continued for the Witches (0-12), who got on the board when Xavier Pacheco singled home Jeremiah Barahona. Anthony Santana also hit safely for Salem.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Saugus 15, Danvers 5: Sienna Goldberg picked up a goal and one assist while teammates Hannah Tersolo, Ruth Gasinowski, Liv Henry and Addie Moore also connected for the Falcons (now 2-10). Elizabeth Solis added five stops between the pipes.
Archbishop Williams 12, Bishop Fenwick 8: Despite five goals from Breanna Genzale, the Crusaders lost on their home turf to fall to 3-8. Ada Zaccaria, Sophie Koles and Alex Cannon each added solo tallies.
Swampscott 17, Winthrop 5: Quinn Kelleher (2 assists), Reagan Pelletier (assist) and Cecelia Tripp each scored four goals as the Big Blue (7-2) rolled to victory Thursday night. Lia Beatrice also had a big game with four assists, with Victoria Pierro adding two scores and one helper. Lucy Gentry, Fiona Keaney (assist) and Bridget Urbano also had goals, with Lila Cilley picking up one assist. Goalie Lilah Caplan reached 504 career saves after finishing the night with six.
GIRLS TENNIS
Swampscott 5, Saugus 0: Nikki Carr and Ginger Gregoire both won 6-0, 6-0 at first and second singles, respectively, as did the second doubles team of Eve Byrne and Lilly Carr, as the Big Blue stayed unbeaten at 8-0. Ana Eccles picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles, and Ava and Alexia O’Donnell took care of business at first doubles, 6-1, 6-2.
Marblehead 3, Masconomet 2: The Magicians won their sixth straight match as Callie Gilmore’s 6-1, 6-4 win at second singles secured the W. Both doubles teams also prevailed for Marblehead (now 6-3) as Joy Meshulam and Caroline Bruett (6-1, 6-1) prevailed, and Harper Mooney and Lilly O’Keefe (7-5, 6-3) teamed up for a win.
Ria Kundaliya of Masconomet (5-1 NEC, 5-4 overall) won a two-and-a-half hour battle with Samara Dosch of Marblehead at first singles, 7-5, 7-5, while Ava Zarrineh earned herself a 6-3, 6-2 win at third singles.
Danvers 3, Peabody 2: The Falcons held serve at home, improving to 4-4 in the process. Josie Vogel (6-1, 6-0), Paige Sherman (6-2, 6-1) and Isabel Beaudoin (6-2, 6-1) all collected victories in singles play for the Blue-and-White.
Lynnfield 5, Beverly 0: The Panthers (now 5-4) didn’t have any answers against a strong Pioneers squad.
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Ipswich 0: The state’s No. 2 ranked team in the Division 4 power rankings took care of the No. 3 squad by sweeping all five matches. Emily McIntosh (6-0, 6-1), Krishna Guruju (3-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Charlotte Ireland (6-1, 6-1) took home victories in singles play for Hamilton-Wenham (now 7-2), as did Gabriella Jewett and Madeline Fennell (7-5, 6-3) at first doubles as well as Evelyn Esdaile and Sofie Greene (4-6, 7-5, 10-7) at second doubles.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Masconomet 2: Cordt Menzler and Filip Wabno won the match for the Magicians at second doubles, prevailing 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 11-9 in a battle between the third and fifth ranked teams in the Division 2 power rankings. Ty Cooper added a victory at first singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), as did TJ Kelly at second singles (6-4, 6-1).
Masconomet’s wins came from Parker Kurtz (6-1, 6-1) at third singles, plus the first doubles team of Arjun Schrejakar and Karthik Nargund (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4)).
Malden Catholic 3, Beverly 2: A non-league road setback dropped the Panthers to 4-4. Victories for the Orange-and-Black came from first singles player Giacomo Guarienti (6-0, 6-0) and Logan Hall at second singles (6-1, 6-4).
Lynnfield 4, Swampscott 1: Senior captain Julian Flacke earned the victory for the Big Blue at second singles, claiming a 6-3, 0-6, 10-3 win in the third set tiebreaker.
BOYS RUGBY
St. John’s Prep 34, Milton 29: Junior Matt Heaslip had a terrific defensive showing and scored a try on a fine breakaway run as the Eagles remained unbeaten at 3-0 after Friday’s win on the road. Sophomore Charlie Erickson forced multiple handling errors in crucial moments while also coming up with a try for St. John’s Prep, which also saw senior captain Chibueze Anasiudu set the tone with a score a minute-and-a-half into the action.
BOYS LACROSSE
Pingree 14, Northfield Mt. Hermon 6: Three goals and two assists from Connor O’Neill, plus another three strikes and one helper from Christian Renaud, enabled the Highlanders (5-5) to snap a rare three-game losing streak. Nick Donovan and Henry Card both added two goals and one assist; Colin Driscoll also scored twice; Matt Tersolo and Chris D’Alleva had one snipe each; Finley McClintock again excelled on the dot by winning 20-of-24 draws; and goalie Marcello Amadeo made 11 saves.
Archbishop Wiliams 16, Bishop Fenwick 3: It was a long day for the Crusaders (now 5-7), who got a goal and an assist from Mike Paolini, single goals from attackmen Jake Grenert and Logan Connolly, and one helper from Dylan Patturelli. Goalies Liam Kelsch and Ryan Zepaj made eight and five saves, respectively.
Winthrop 13, Swampscott 2: Despite 21 saves from goalie Colton Alex and 13 faceoff wins from Luke Michigan, the Big Blue (now 5-6) had difficulty getting shots off against a swarming Winthrop defense. Jason Rothwell had one goal for Swampscott and assisted on teammate Ollie Braham’s tally.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Wakefield 3, Essex Tech 0: The Hawks fell to 3-8.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Salem State 5, Westfield State 3: Matt Walling threw a nine inning complete game five hitter and the Vikings (19-14) started the weekend with a win. Salem’s Jack Doyle had an RBI double for a late insurance run while Johnny Payne’s sac fly in the fourth broke a 2-2 tie and put the Vikings ahead for good. Doyle and Yabdriel Gonzalez both finished the day with three hits.
