GIRLS SOCCER
Danvers 2, North Reading 1: Emma Sutherland netted the go-ahead goal after assisting on Rylee Sullivan’s sixth of the season earlier in the game as Danvers (2-1-1) grabbed a momentous non-league win at home. Mia St. Pierre also assisted while forward Kaitlyn Rosa, defender Maddie Hanas and center back Ali Doucette had big games for the Falcons. Sophomore Maggie Lamar was all over the field from her central mid spot on Danvers Youth Soccer night at Deering Stadiun,
“There was a lot of energy at our field tonight. It was a very big crowd and it was great to see so many future players on hand to be a part of it,” coach Jimmy Hinchion said.
Salem 1, Ipswich 1: Makenzie Eichel had the goal for the Witches (2-1-2) with an assist from Jackie Fritz. In back, Madyson Eichel and Dever Cornell played great for Salem.
BOYS SOCCER
Masconomet 5, Whittier 0: Norman James and Matteo Steffanelli had two goals each and Soren Scarpaci recorded his first career shutout and the Chieftains rolled. Assists went to Luke Fiedler, Sam Costa, Will Highgas and Devlin Hixson while Adam Toleso, Kenny McCann and Colin Sutton excelled on defense.
Pioneer Charter School of Science 4, Danvers 0: Down by just a goal at halftime, the young Falcons weren’t able to get the equalizer and allowed three in their own net to fall to 0-4.
FIELD HOCKEY
Beverly 7, Peabody 0: Sophomore Lauren Conant recorded her first full varsity shutout in net while Ellie Fisher and captain Fiona Bazin both scored two goals offensively to power the Orange-and-Black (now 4-0). Avery LeBlanc, Keira MacNutt and Mia Moschella also scored for Beverly, with Charlotte Bilotti (2), Gwen Jones, Ashley Wallace and Caroline Blank all gathering assists. Avery Mason, normally the team’s starting goalie, was a field player for a change.
Bishop Fenwick 3, Rockport 0: Sarah Bannister made seven saves for her third shutout of the season while captain Alex Kohalmi scored twice to give the Crusaders (now 5-1) their fourth straight win. Bella McCormack had the other Fenwick tally, with assists credited to Reese Robillard and Sophia Cook. Midfielder Aibhilin Sova also had a terrific game in the win.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Beverly 22, Saugus/Winthrop 45: Earlier in the week, Jackson Oliver’s time of 18:54 paced the Panthers to a victory. Santiago Moran (19:04) also ran a great race for Beverly, with Colin Dietze, in just his third-ever high school cross country race, finished in 23:06 to establish himself as his team’s fifth runner.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Smith 3, Endicott 1: Hadley Helenbrook had 14 kills to lead the Gulls (4-3) in the loss and Hannah Maguire picked up 11 digs.
