Masconomet 3, Pentucket 2: Down 10-14 in the fifth and deciding set, the Chieftains got some composed play behind the service line from senior captains Keira Conley and Nora Sterner (6 aces, 29 assist, 1 kill) while freshman Katie Walsh scored the match-winning point in a thrilling 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 17-15 triumph. Libero Sophia Balducci added 25 digs; sophomore outside hitter Maniya Kari led Masco with eight kills to go with 23 digs; and sophomore Lydia Sterner added a half-dozen kills.
Beverly 3, Malden Catholic 1: Jane Cosmas finished with nine kills while teammates Julia Marks (5 blocks) and Tori Mulumba each finished with seven kills to give the Panthers the victory, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, in Malden. Lorelei MacKilligan played well on the back row for Beverly (now 2-1), finishing with 17 digs.
Danvers 3, Gloucester 0: Hannah Tersolo had a terrific score line of 14 assists, 10 digs, five aces and two kills to pace the Falcons to victory, 25-4, 25-17, 25-15, on Thursday inght. Gabrielle Lindeman led Danvers in both kills (7) and digs (21) while Lauren Garofalo (13 digs, 2 kills) had a team-high six aces. Brooke Bernard (5 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace, 1 block), Kendall Murphy (4 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace, 1 block), Gracie Monteiro (4 kills), Sienna Lynch (1 kill, 1 block), Lila Osborne (7 assists, 1 kill, 2 digs) and Hadley Brown (4 aces, 19 digs) also helped lead the way for the Blue-and-White.
BOYS SOCCER
Beverly 2, Peabody 0: Senior captain Connor Sullivan scored both goals, assisted by sophomores Sawyer Wagner and Wilder de Leon, as the Orange-and-Black (1-1) picked up their first win. Senior goalkeeper Adam Porcello turned in the shutout for the winners, with senior defender Henry Crafton and sophomore midfielder Luca D’Onofrio earning praise for their stellar play.
A lack of offense hurt Peabody, which did receive strong performances from Thad Broughton, Pedro Silva, Kyle Neal, Jon Ward and Jason DeCost.
Bishop Fenwick 6, Saugus 1: Four goals and one assist from Edwin Flores was more than enough to push the Crusaders past the Sachems in a Thursday non-league battle. Hector Jiminez and Anthony DeLuca had the other tallies for Fenwick, which received two assists from Daniel Martin and one each from John Landers and Cristian Sanchez.
FIELD HOCKEY
Masconomet 5, Peabody 0: Mia Marques had a pair of goals and one assist while Kayleigh LeColst, Amelia Palmeiro and Olivia Palmer also scored to give the Chieftains (1-1-1) their first win of the season. Maddy Regan also had one assist, with goalies Sabrina Cafarelli and Julia Beauvais combining to pitch the shutout.
Goalie Mia Covey had 25 saves in net for Peabody, coming up time and again with big stops. Yashvi Patel, Amayah Francher, Eva Briggs and Chloe Murtagh had strong offensive games, as did Sophia Demuele on the offensive end.
Bishop Fenwick 5, Malden Catholic 2: Five different scorers, including the first varsity goal by freshman Sara Dunsky, enabled the Crusaders (now 2-1) to roll over the Lancers. Senior captain Alex Kohalmi, juniors Bella McCormack (3 assists) and Sophia Cooke (1 assist), and sophomore Reese Robillard also scored for Fenwick, with Sarah Bannister making 11 saves in net. Miabella Millett and Bailey Chalmers were standouts in the midfield as well.
GOLF
St. John’s Prep 44, Winchester 28: AJ Bodnar shot a 1-over par 36 while Jack Carew added a 37 to pace the Eagles (3-1) Thursday at Winchester Country Club. Eagle teammates Seamus O’Holleran, Cullen Pasternick and Zach Enners each shot 38s in the victory.
MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER
Curry 2, Endicott 1: Adam Kozubal gave the Gulls (1-2-1) a lead a little over six minutes in assists from Kyle Montalvo & Cole Loisel, but they couldn’t score again in a road setback. Goalie Colby Webber made a pair of saves in the setback.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Bates 3, Endicott 2: The visiting Bobcats came into Beverly Friday night and headed back to Maine with a 19-25, 25-19, 19-25 27-25, 15-13. Endicott saw Hadley Helenbrook finish with a match-high 18 kills to go with eight digs, four service aces, three assists and two total blocks. Hannah Maguire had a double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs.
