GIRLS TENNIS
Ipswich 4, Bourne 1: Straight set victories in four matches, highlighted by third singles player Emily Hannibal’s convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory, gave the fifth seeded Tigers (11-6) a Division 4 first round playoff win.
Abbie Allen and Tess O’Flynn both had easy wins at first and second singles, respectively, as did the first doubles team of Charlotte Donahue and Norah Hickey, 6-1, 6-4. Abbie Wallace and Lila Borgman also performed well at second doubles, ultimately falling in a super tiebreaker, 11-9. Ipswich will now host a second round match next week against the winner of Sunday’s Nantucket/Tyngsborough match.
BASEBALL
Ipswich 4, Minuteman 0: Dylan York needed just 70 pitches to post a shutout and earn the Tigers (7-14) their first playoff victory in 15 years. With just three hits allowed, one walk and seven strikeouts York was in command all afternoon. Jake Petradellis put Ipswich ahead early with a 2-run double and the hosts never looked back. Brady Merry (2-for-3, run) and Nate Baise (1-for-3, two runs) contributed offensively in the Division 4 preliminary round triumph. Up next is a trip to No. 3 Clinton on Monday.
Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Hamilton-Wenham 1: The Generals (13-8) were ousted from the Division 4 playoffs in the Round of 32 despite outhitting D-Y by a 6-2 margin. Cormac Heney was excellent on the mound for H-W, carrying a no-hitter through five and allowing only one hit with seven strikeouts. Aiden Clarke’s pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth broke the seal but the Gens stranded a few baserunners and couldn’t get the timely hit. Heney (double), Gian Gamelli, Alec Cote and Cole Scanlon added hits.

Emma Cormier, Gigi Barrows, Andrianna Lassus and Morgan Gaeta all delivered RBI hits, with Isla Bishop and Ella Tucker hitting doubles.

Foxborough 6, Danvers 0: In a first round battle on their home field, the Falcons (12-9) were stymied offensively and saw their season come to an end. Seniors Sammy Fay (2-for-3), Ava Gray and Lauren Ahearn all had base hits, while fellow senior Brea Robinson had a fine game in centerfield for the Blue-and-White.
