Bishop Fenwick 3, Danvers 2: Down two sets early, the Crusaders battled all the way back to tie it, then won the match with a three-set victory by Callie Reed, who pulled out a dramatic 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-4 triumph to advance to the Division 3 Final Four.
The first doubles team of Caroline O’Hare and Maggie Wichroski got Fenwick a win, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0, cutting their deficit to 2-1. Kit Wichorski then tied up the match with her victory at second singles, claiming a straight set 7-5, 6-4 triumph.
Bishop Fenwick’s third playoff win in a row continued a magical postseason for the No. 21 seed, which improved to 13-5 this spring. It will now face the winner of Sunday’s match between top seeded Dover-Sherborn and No. 9 Weston in the Division 3 Final Four next week.
Danvers, the No. 12 seed in the draw, shot out to a 2-0 lead Friday as the second doubles team of Paige Sherman and Isabelle Beaudoin claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win, followed by Madison Savage grabbing a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles. The Falcons finished their season at 14-7.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Norwell 17, Hamilton-Wenham 8: For the third consecutive season, the Generals (14-5) had their season cut short in the quarterfinal round of the Division 4 state tournament.
Evie Bernard scored three goals and had 10 draw controls while Grace Glidden also scored three times and added four draw controls for Hamilton-Wenham. The No. 6 seed also got two goals and one assist from Jane Boardman, plus some strong defensive play from Maddie Graber and Sophie Happel in front of goaltender Rowan Sheckells (4 saves).
SUMMER BASEBALL
Ocean State Waves 6, North Shore Navigators 0: The Navigators dropped their third straight game to open the NECBL summer season. Reliever Sam Sullivan, formerly of St. John’s Prep, threw two scoreless innings for the locals, who were limited to three hits offensively.
