A free public showing of “Yellow Face,” part of the PBS Great Performance series, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the Cumberland County Playhouse at 221 Tennessee Ave.
This film is a free event sponsored by the Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates, a community nonprofit organization which celebrates, educates and advocates for diversity and equality in the Upper Cumberland region.
Yellow Face is a satirical, semi-autobiographical play by David Henry Hwang which made its Broadway debut in the fall of 2024.
The play was nominated for several Tony Awards during 2025 and explores themes of Asian American representation and assimilation.
The play’s examination of race, ethnicity, and media portrayal is done in a humorous but thoughtful fashion and is very relevant to issues of diversity and inclusion in America.
