CRESAPTOWN — Calvary’s 82-game home winning streak was snapped on Thursday, as Frankfort won in five sets.
It snaps a streak dating back to 2017, and is only the third loss since 2022 for the Eagles (3-1).
“Our girls never played for the streak,” Calvary head coach John Wall said. “These girls give everything they have for one another. What is handed down from team to team, year after year is a never give up attitude. These girls will not stop until they see the ball hit the floor.”
Calvary won the first set 25-20 and the third set 25-21, but Frankfort (1-0) took the second set 25-22 and the final two 25-19 and 16-14.
Paula Ganoe led the Eagles with 20 kills, part of a triple-double.
“Paula did a fantastic job in the middle getting us kills we needed to keep us in games,” Wall said.
She also added 19 points, 15 digs, two blocks and an ace.
Allie Maust also had a triple-double with a team-best 17 assists, adding 11 points, 11 digs and five aces.
Madelyn Robinette finished with 16 points, six digs, four assists and an ace.
“We knew it was gonna be a tough match,” Wall said. “Frankfort is a big team, we’re a little on the smaller side. But what we miss in attack, we make up in defense. Our defense was on fire tonight. They really ran down every ball that we could.”
Arianna Shillingburg recorded 16 points, seven digs, six aces and six kills.
Arabella DeValk added nine kills, six points, three digs and two blocks.
Reagan Getz finished with 12 digs and one point.
Kaitlyn Bender had 12 points and six digs.
“More than once, there were four Calvary girls on the floor to win a point,” Wall said. “This is the fastest defensive team I have had in my 14th season at Calvary. I could not be more proud or inspired by what I saw tonight.”
The Eagles played at Shalom in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on Friday.
It’s a non-conference game after Shalom joined the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) after leaving Calvary’s conference, the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference this year.
