State champion Frankfort placed three on the All-State first team, and six locals landed on the first or second squads in Class AA and AAA by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association on Thursday.
Frankfort (27-7), which defeated Logan, 5-2, in the state finals on June 13, boasted the first-team captain in Lanson Orndorf, who made the cut as a pitcher.
The senior right-hander bound for Charleston compiled an 11-3 record and 0.58 ERA with 112 strikeouts in 84 innings, adding a .413 batting average and 16 extra-base hits at the plate.
His former Frankfort and future Charleston teammate Blake Jacobs was a first-team infielder after hitting .404 with four triples, 15 doubles, 23 RBIs, 38 runs and 21 stolen bases.
A third Falcon senior, Jaxon Hare, was a first-team utility man, tallying a 1.69 ERA and 8-1 record in 49 2/3 frames pitching with a .371 average and 35 runs batted in on offense.
Keyser senior Hunter Harr made the cut on Class AAA first squad as a catcher after hitting .427 with three home runs, one triple, 14 doubles and 19 RBIs. Behind the plate, he caught 15 runners trying to steal.
Hampshire junior Channing Wilt was a second-team outfielder in Class AAA. He batted .475 with nine doubles, 14 RBIs, 36 runs and 37 stolen bases.
Petersburg sophomore Payton Metheny was honored as a second-team infielder in Class AA. Metheny garnered a .392 average with two homers, two triples, five doubles, 15 RBIs, 30 runs and 23 steals this spring.
Five more locals were selected as honorable mentions: Petersburg’s Kaleb Kuhn and Owen Reel and Frankfort’s Carson Durst in Class AA, and Keyser’s Landon Tysinger and Lucas Williamson on Class AAA.
