MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Frankfort won a 10-inning thriller over defending Class AAAA state champion University, 2-1, Thursday in a tune-up game before the regional playoffs.
The Falcons (25-0) and University were tied 0-0 after nine innings when a rash of errors in the 10th afforded them two runs.
University got a run back on an RBI double by Maddie Shaver and loaded the bases with one out.
Avery Noel (Liberty signee) pitched out of the jam, getting the final two outs to preserve Frankfort’s perfect season.
Noel tossed five shutout innings of four-hit ball with six strikeouts and two walks. Rylee Mangold (Concord signee) tossed five shutout frames of one-hit ball to start in a no decision, fanning six and walking none.
Adison Pritts (Potomac State) doubled to pace the Falcons’ offense.
Maddie Campbell took the loss in the circle for University, allowing an unearned run on three hits in six frames. Sophie Lehosit threw four shutout innings to start.
Frankfort begins its regional championship series Monday at Lincoln. Game 2 is home against Lincoln Tuesday, and a third game, if necessary, is Wednesday at Lincoln.
