GLEN DALE, W.Va. — Frankfort exploded for eight runs in the first inning and held off a late rally to beat John Marshall, 14-11, Wednesday for its ninth straight win.
The Falcons (24-7) led 13-5 midway through the fourth inning. John Marshall scored six of the game’s final seven runs, putting the tying run in scoring position in the seventh, but Dalton Evans pitched a groundout to end the game.
Lanson Orndorf (Charleston signee) went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and four RBIs, Jaxon Hare tripled, doubled and had four ribbies, Braeden Laffey went 2 for 3 with a double and three runs, Jesus Perdew doubled and drove in a pair, and Gunnar Bradshaw had two RBIs.
Hare was the winning arm, allowing an earned run on three hits of middle relief. Orndorf got the start and gave up no earned run across three innings with four strikeouts.
Kayden Knapp belted a solo homer for John Marshall, and Cain Martin batted 2 for 5 with three runs batted in.
Hayden Hughes was the losing arm.
The Falcons, seeded second in the Class AA state tournament, face No. 7 Lincoln in the quarterfinals on Monday at 5 p.m. at Marshall University’s Jack Cook Field in Huntington, West Virginia.
