Four area boys basketball players were named West Virginia Schools Athletic Coaches Association All-State on Monday.
Frankfort’s Jeremy Phillips and Petersburg’s Kaleb Kuhn were named to the Class AA team, and Union’s Braylon Ward and East Hardy’s Gideon Good made the cut in Class A.
Phillips and Kuhn, both seniors, helped their respective squads snap lengthy Class AA state tournament droughts. Frankfort (15-10) made states for the first time since 2010, and Petersburg (17-8) did so for the first time since 2007.
Phillips averaged 23.8 points points per game and Kuhn posted 21.0 a night.
East Hardy’s junior big man Good guided the Cougars (21-5) to their third straight Class A state semifinal appearance, averaging a double-double at 17 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest in the process.
Ward, a junior guard, averaged 24.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
