ACCIDENT — Fort Hill contained a top three scorer in the area, utilizing a box-and-1 defense to defeat Northern 42-37 on Thursday in the Igloo.
Abby Nelson averaged 20.7 points as of Monday, but the Sentinels (7-8, 1-3 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) held her to 13.
“It’s amazing what can happen when you get a group to believe,” Fort Hill head coach Mike Allen said, “I’m incredibly proud of our girls effort and fight. When our two ball handlers went out with fouls, we lost the lead but never quit.”
Allahna Lacy scored 11 points for the Huskies (6-6, 0-5 WestMAC).
Caniyah Plummer led both teams with 16 points for Fort Hill, adding four blocks, four rebounds and two steals.
Addison Furstenberg finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, eight blocks and two steals.
“Caniyah and Addi were super inside and on the glass,” Allen said.
Northern led 10-6 after one before Fort Hill took a 20-15 halftime lead.
The Huskies led 32-29 heading to the fourth.
Northern took the junior varsity game 31-25 led by Ava Wilhelm’s 14 points while Emma McMahan led the Sentinels with nine.
Fort Hill plays at No. 4 Allegany (11-2, 4-1 WestMAC) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Northern is scheduled to host Mountain Ridge (7-6, 2-3 WestMAC) on Monday, weather permitting.
Moorefield 71, East Hardy 13
BAKER, W.Va. — Moorefield pitched a shutout in the first quarter and cruised to a rout of East Hardy on Thursday.
The Yellow Jackets (4-8) led 24-0 after one, 44-6 at halftime and 56-8 after three.
Kerigan Bergdall scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first half for Moorefield.
Brenna See scored 14 points with 10 in the first half.
No one scored more than four points for the Cougars (1-10).
Both teams hit the road on Tuesday.
East Hardy faces Pendleton County at 6 p.m. while Moorefield plays Frankfort (7-7) at 7 p.m.
Johnstown Christian 60, Bishop Walsh 56
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Bishop Walsh led 22-9 after one quarter and 33-21 at halftime, but Johnstown Christian completed a second half comeback to win on Thursday.
The Blue Jays (5-1) outscored the Spartans (9-6) in the second half 38-23.
Cayenne Ostrander led Bishop Walsh with 19 points, adding five rebounds and four steals.
Naiara Shaffer and Lanie Odom each scored 14 points with Odom adding seven boards, a block and a steal.
Aerianna Jackson scored nine points with seven steals and five assists.
Lily Lushko led Johnstown Christian with 13 points, followed by Danielle Coleman (11), Noel Lushko (10) and ShayLynn Favor (10).
The Spartans are at Cumberland Valley on Friday and are scheduled to host Johnstown Christian on Monday, weather permitting.
