Fort Hill entered the Maryland Media State Poll at No. 24, setting up a ranked matchup with No. 20 Dunbar on Friday.
The Sentinels (1-0) were snubbed from the preseason rankings but entered after a 27-0 rout of Northern on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s Class 1A state championship game.
St. Frances Academy, despite a narrow loss to national No. 2 St. John Bosco (California), remains the undisputed No. 1 team in Maryland, collecting all 12 first-place votes.
DeMatha remains No. 2, with McDonogh School and Archbishop Spalding swapping places, with McDonogh checking in at No. 3, followed by Spalding. McDonogh and Spalding meet this week, and that result will settle who should be ranked higher next week. Good Counsel stays at No. 5 with Quince Orchard, the highest-ranked public school, staying put at No. 6.
Broadneck, which lost to unranked St. Mary’s of Annapolis, fell out of the Top 25.
One of the more intriguing matchups this week takes place in the SMAC (Southern Maryland Athletic Conference) where a pair of reigning state champions go head-to-head as No. 14 North Point takes on No. 22 Patuxent.
Patuxent won last year’s encounter en route to a 2A-1A state title and a perfect season.
