CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill exploded for 18 hits in a 14-7 victory over No. 5 Southern on Wednesday.
Fort Hill (2-2, 1-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) fell behind 4-0 after the first inning to Southern (0-2, 0-1 WestMAC) before scoring 14 of the game’s next 14 runs.
The Sentinels plated five runs in the fourth and three in the third and sixth innings.
Fort Hill’s Summer Welsh tallied four hits, one a double, to go along with three runs.
Tatum Bishop (Frostburg State commit) doubled twice and had two RBIs, Brynnan Wigger (Allegany College commit) went 3 for 3 with a double, Taylor Wiseman had three singles and three RBIs, Kennedy Helmstetter went 2 for 3 with three ribbies, and Haley Metz and Nakiah Dunn both singled twice.
Metz snagged the win in the circle, allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits in seven innings. She struck out nine and walked two.
Southern’s Adeline Wilson (University of Maryland Eastern Shore commit) was tabbed with the loss.
Halee Bruckey tripled for Southern, and Wilson and Olivia Hayhurst doubled. Wilson was 4 for 4 with three RBIs, and Bruckey drove in two runs. Lea Custer singled twice.
Fort Hill hosts East Hardy (1-1) on Monday at 5 p.m.
Southern is at Preston on Friday at 5 p.m.
No. 1 Allegany 12, Meyersdale 3
MEYSERSDALE, Pa. — Alyssa Rader homered and Sadee Baker had four hits and three RBIs in Allegany’s romp of Meyersdale on Wednesday.
Rader’s big fly was of the two-run variety and came in the sixth.
Baker was one of four Campers with a double along with Jordyn Sneathen, Savannah Walton and Tyiss Jessie. Sneathen, Walton, Mykah Baker, Jessie and Rader had two hits each.
Sneathen was the winning pitcher, surrendering two unearned runs on three hits in four innings. The St. Francis commit struck out five and walked two.
Walton spun three no-hit frames in relief, allowing an unearned run and fanning five.
Karleigh Beal and Keira Eberly doubled for Meyersdale. Madison Berkeley was the losing arm.
Allegany (2-1) is at Somerset, Pennsylvania, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
No. 3 Northern 11, Hancock 0
HANCOCK — Bailey Champlin tossed a shutout and drove in five runs in leading No. 3 Northern to a five-inning win over Hancock on Wednesday.
The Huskies (2-0) scored in all but one inning and plated five in the fifth to secure the mercy rule.
Champlin threw five shutout innings of three-hit ball with seven strikeouts and seven walks. She went 2 for 3 with a double at the plate.
Northern’s Demi Ross (Lock Haven signee) went 3 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs, Rain Ritchey was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs, Ava Wilhelm doubled, and Kylie Oxford scored twice.
Taylor Weller was dealt the loss for Hancock.
Northern (1-0 WestMAC) hosts Mountain Ridge (1-2, 0-0 WestMAC) on Thursday at 5 p.m.
No. 4 Petersburg 10, Pendleton Co. 3
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Ella Markwell tallied four runs batted in to help No. 4 Petersburg to a win over defending Class A state champion Pendleton County on Wednesday.
Petersburg (3-0) scored five runs in the third inning and led 8-1 going into the sixth.
The Vikings’ Cheyenne Sites doubled twice and drove in a pair, Miley Tingler singled twice and scored three times and Markwell had two singles.
Kinsley Crites earned the win after giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits in seven frames with eight strikeouts to no walks.
Pendleton’s Jessica Parker hit a solo home run and doubled, and Jacey Thompson doubled.
Susan Vincell was the losing arm, though just two of her 10 runs allowed over six innings were earned.
Petersburg is at Frankfort (4-0) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Frankfort 17, Martinsburg 2
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Frankfort racked up 14 hits and scored seven runs in two different innings to cruise to a four-inning rout of Martinsburg on Wednesday.
The Falcons (4-0) received multi-hit performances from Jordan-Marie Owens, Raygan Grogg, Peyton Kimble, Sydney Robosson and Riley Lynch. Robosson tripled, Owens and Addyson Merritt doubled and Kimble, Robosson and Elizabeth Crowe garnered two runs batted in apiece.
Robosson was the winning pitcher, allowing two unearned runs on two hits in two innings. Dayahna Imes followed with two scoreless frames in relief.
Martinsburg’s Madison Rogers was dealt the loss in the circle.
Frankfort hosts No. 4 Petersburg (3-0) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Mtn. Ridge 19, Berkeley Springs 1
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Mountain Ridge got its bats going to record its first victory of the season with a four-inning romp of Berkeley Springs.
Anne Baker had a monster day at the dish going 3 for 4 with two doubles, six runs batted in and three runs. Macy Barth, Gracie Shingler and Julianna Burress scored three runs apiece.
Destinee Johnson got the win with two shutout innings of two-hit ball, striking out two and walking three. Burress allowed a run on two hits in two innings of relief.
Bailee Diehl was the losing pitcher for Berkeley Springs. Scotlyn Forney doubled to lead the Indians’ lineup.
Mountain Ridge (1-2, 0-0 WestMAC) heads to No. 3 Northern (2-0, 1-0 WestMAC) on Thursday at 5 p.m.
East Hardy 13, Tucker Co. 0
BAKER, W.Va. — Madison Strosnider spun an 11-strikeout no-hitter in East Hardy’s rout of Tucker County in five innings Wednesday.
Strosnider, committed to Richard Bland College, was just two over the minimum, walking one and hitting another. At the plate, Strosnider was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs batted in.
East Hardy’s Paylynn Rexrode was 3 for 3 with four RBIs, Jaylynn Combs was 3 for 3 with a double and three ribbies, and Gracie Heishman singled twice.
Tucker County pitcher Peyton Hicks was dealt the loss.
East Hardy (1-1) is at Berkeley Springs on Friday at 5 p.m.
Hedgesville 21, Hampshire 0
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Hedgesville tagged Hampshire for 15 runs in the first to cruise to a mercy-rule shortened win Wednesday.
Brenna Cunningham homered and had five RBIs for Hedgesville.
Charly Ashton and Julie Boyles doubled to lead Hampshire (0-2).
The Trojans are at No. 3 Northern (2-0) on Saturday at noon.
