SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Fort Cumberland Post 13 fell behind early and couldn’t make up the ground in a 10-4 loss to Charleston Post 65 in the Berkeley Post 14 Invitational on Friday at Frankfort High School.
Charleston (15-11) took advantage of three first-inning walks to plate four runs before Fort Cumberland (7-4) took its first at-bat.
Post 13, trailing 6-1, made it a three-run game in the third after an RBI single by Myles Bascelli and a wild pitch that plated Cole Ricker.
However, that’s as close as Fort Cumberland got. Charleston scored three runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the sixth to pull away.
Charleston’s Cooper Nooney had two hits and four RBIs, Gavin Barnett doubled, Devon Hatfield singled twice and scored three times, and Grant Barclay had two hits and two ribbies.
Wyatt Thomas pitched a complete game for the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in six innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The game was ended after six innings due to a two-out time limit.
Fort Cumberland’s Kohen Madden scored twice, and Colt Resh and Jake Rice added ribbies. Bryson Krumpach was the losing pitcher.
Fort Cumberland is still alive in Pool B, though it will need to win both of its games Saturday at Potomac State’s Golden Park.
Post 13 takes on Potomac Valley Post 64 at 10 a.m. and Funkstown Post 211 at 1 p.m.
