Former Dalton High School football standout, Jim Arnold, drafted into the NFL in 1983 as a punter, will be returning to his alma mater on Wednesday, to present a special gift to the Dalton High School athletic department.
Jim Arnold’s athletic journey took off during his high school years as a punter for Dalton High. His talent and dedication earned him a scholarship to Vanderbilt University, setting the stage for his entry into the professional football realm. Originally drafted to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, Arnold later became better known as a Detroit Lion.
Retiring from the NFL in 1994, Arnold now resides in Franklin, Tennessee, near his college football playing grounds in Nashville. Recently, Arnold had the opportunity to connect with another local standout, Jahmyr Gibbs, who was drafted by the Detroit Lions in last April’s NFL Draft. The two Catamount alumni had the chance to meet and take a photo together during the Lions’ game on Oct. 31.
In a special event set for Wednesday at Dalton High School, Arnold will be presenting a gift to the school’s athletic department commemorating his meeting with Gibbs.
The event is Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Dalton High School mini commons within the school. Attendees are asked to use the entrance at the gym to access the event.
