LE SUEUR — Gov. Tim Walz ordered all U.S. and Minnesota flags to fly at half-staff at all state buildings Sunday in honor and remembrance of 41-year-old Le Sueur police officer Karl Haugen who died unexpectedly Aug. 18 at his home.
“Officer Karl Haugen dedicated more than 16 years to serving communities across Minnesota,” stated Walz in a news release. “His service, leadership, and commitment are deeply appreciated by his colleagues and the many communities he served. I extend my deepest condolences to his wife, Morgan, their children Griffin, Aurora, and Teddy, and to all who knew and loved him.”
Throughout his career, Haugen worked in several roles serving Minnesotans, including at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, the Minnesota Correctional Facility–Faribault, the Henderson Police Department and, most recently, the Le Sueur Police Department, where he served as an officer for the past 13 years.
This proclamation is for the day of Haugen’s interment and is concurrent with the flags at half-staff directive in honor of the lives lost to gun violence at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.
