CRESAPTOWN — An apparent electrical fire at a Jared Drive mobile home in the Bel Air area Monday sent one firefighter to the hospital, the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal said.
The firefighter was taken to UPMC Western Maryland with a leg injury following the 9:15 a.m. incident, investigators said.
There were no other injuries in the blaze that was reported by the occupant, who was awakened by a smoke detector, the fire marshal’s office said.
Investigators said the fire originated in the living room and was caused by a malfunctioning electrical component. Damage was estimated at $40,000 to the structure and $35,000 to contents and vehicles.
The property, located at 14300 Jared Drive Lot Y is owned by Matthew Fields.
The fire marshal’s office said smoke alarms were installed at the property last year by Cresaptown firefighters.
Firefighters from Cresaptown, Rawlings, Bowling Green, Keyser, Short Gap, Shaft and Ridgeley responded along with standby crews from Cumberland and Frostburg.
