ST. PETER — A North Mankato man received a prison sentence for possession of a firearm after previous violent crime convictions.
Tierre Theo Walton, 34, was convicted on a felony firearm violation Friday in Nicollet County District Court.
He’s set to serve at least two-thirds of a five-year sentence in prison, minus 31 days of credit for time already served, according to a sentencing order.
Walton was charged in March after Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force agents reported finding a pistol and loaded magazine in his trunk. The agents were monitoring his vehicle in relation to suspected drug sales, according to a criminal complaint.
He reportedly claimed he received the firearm from a friend. Past burglary, assault and robbery convictions in Blue Earth County bar him from legal possession of a firearm.
