MANKATO — A man was sentenced to prison Monday in a case related to an accidental gunshot incident at a Mankato apartment in 2023, according to court records.
A jury found Rashad Lamont Burch, 40, of Mankato, guilty of a felony firearm violation and drug possession in February in Blue Earth County District Court.
A complaint filed against him in March 2023 stated he had ammunition, gun parts and suspected cocaine in an apartment where a woman accidentally shot herself in the leg. A previous conviction prohibited Burch from legal possession of firearms or ammunition.
Burch will serve a five-year sentence minus 404 days of credit for time served. Two-thirds of the sentence will be served in a Minnesota prison, followed by the remaining one-third on supervised release.
