FROSTBURG — A garage fire in Zihlman Tuesday evening caused about $50,000 damage, the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said.
Firefighters were dispatched to 10634 New Hope Road just after 5 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the Allegany County Joint Communications Center.
Frostburg Fire Department Chief Buzz Davis said when units arrived the detached garage was fully engulfed.
“The garage and the contents were completely destroyed,” Davis said.
Davis said the owner was using a grinding wheel inside the garage to cut a piece of metal, which sparked the blaze.
The main residence located approximately 20 feet from the garage was not damaged.
“There were houses on both sides of the garage … there was no extension or heat damage to either structure,” Davis said.
Approximately 30 firefighters remained on the scene for nearly an hour, according to Davis.
No injuries were reported.
Units from Frostburg, Mount Savage, Shaft, LaVale, Midland, Eastern Garrett, Ridgeley and Allegany County Department of Emergency Services responded.
