The Fairfield Glade Rotary Club presented checks to two nonprofits in June.
The first was to John Wedgworth and Fiona for Fairfield Glade Resident Services.
During the meeting, Wedgworth talked about the Way to Go Program, which provides transportation to Fairfield Glade residents.
As of the end of May 2025, the Way to Go program has accumulated 306,000 miles of transportation services.
Fairfield Glade Resident Services also provides blood pressure screenings at the Village Green Mall and a Home Safety program, which installs hand bars and other safety equipment for those in need.

The second check was presented to Laurie Birt and Winston for Smoky Mountain Service Dogs.
The organization provides mobility assisted service dogs to veterans and first responders, as well as psychiatric service dogs for those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Brit said that it takes approximately two years to train each dog, with an approximate cost of $20,000 for each dog’s training. A total of 76 dogs have been placed since 2013. Smoky Mountain Service Dogs is in need of volunteers willing to serve as a placement home for the first two years of the puppy’s life.
