The Culinary Arts students at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center recently spent a little time learning about local food sources.
The classes, along with teachers Chef Lisa Cook, Chef Caitlin Kucharski and Science teacher Seth Muck, paid a visit to Lake Shore Dairy in Wilson and Coulter Farms in Lockport.
The students enjoyed learning about their commitment to fresh food and how it plays into the farm-to-fork initiative in cooking.
The hands-on site visits and spending a day with the farmers helped them understand the importance of quality production and craftsmanship. It also helped to enhance their knowledge of the community’s home-grown products and the advantages of cooking with freshly harvested fruits and vegetables.
